I am not sure if I have simply been noticing it more, or it they are more frequent in the summer months, but I have seen an abundance of people wearing a hemp necklace in the past few weeks. I can remember this trend a few years ago when it seemed as though almost everyone had at least one hemp necklace, if not several. I had 3 of them myself, although there was one specific hemp necklace that I wore far more than the others. Despite their brief success, it seemed as though they went out of style as fast as they gained their short popularity. It would have been a challenge to find a single hemp necklace in the past two years, which is why I have been so surprised to see so many people wearing a hemp necklace recently.
I think this recent fashion phenomenon can be explained by a quick look at the industry and the trend setters. The vast majority of places where you can get a hemp necklace are small companies run by a few young entrepreneurs. Many of these small business owners will not only sell you a hemp necklace (as well as other hemp products) but are big fans of this style. These owners are the people that greatly enjoyed the popularity of hemp products a few years ago, and are now in a position to influence current fashion trends. These cycles are common in the fashion industry, and a clear example is the return of bell-bottoms as the hippie generation of the ‘60s reached powerful position in fashion companies. However, the cycle time that we have seen for finding a hemp necklace has been much shorter, largely due to the low cost of setting up a business based on hemp products.
