Hemp Products
Hemp products are extremely popular, but only among a very specific demographic. This demographic cannot be outlined simply by factors such as age, race, or gender. Rather, the demographic of the main customers of hemp products are based on a certain attitude. Most people that buy hemp products can be labeled as ‘hippies’. Individuals that fall into this group are people who care about nature, in a way that is reminiscent of the hippie movement of the 1960s. Although these people are concerned with the environment, that is not the reason that they purchase hemp products (which is one of the most environmentally friendly crops). Rather, hemp products are closely associated with marijuana, as they are both in the same plant family.
While the association with marijuana is what has made most hemp products successful, it is also a big factor in preventing future growth. While this feature is something extremely attractive to the hippie demographic, it is not very appealing to other potential consumers, thus limiting hemp products almost strictly to this one demographic. This problem can also be attributed to the US government as they have outlawed hemp farming since they believe it is similar to marijuana. In order to see growth in the hemp products market, companies will have to effectively market that the environmental benefits of hemp farming. A little research will show that these benefits are numerous, but far too many people do not know about them and so refuse to buy hemp products.
